SHINE ON | Angie Bolling
The word shine conjurs up images of things that are shiny and new. Artist Angie Bolling, strongly influenced by her Deep South roots and close-knit family, chooses to share with us a respectful look at things that are shiny and old. Old and sometimes broken, like the tidbits of glass, beads, and shells Bolling uses in her eclectic mixed media artwork. Old and worn, as the distressed frame that wraps itself like a proud matriarch tightly embracing one of the artist’s intricately beaded family trees. Old and wise, wise like the souls who’ve gone before us leaving behind flickering memories in our hearts. While Bolling’s art provides us with many visual interpretations of the word “shine”, perhaps it is her charming manner of making us consider how we ourselves might consider ways to “shine on” that is the truest interpretation in this exhibit.
Inspired by the colors & textures of Mexico, Mardi Gras, and folk-art from many cultures, Bolling creates original mixed-media pieces. “My impulse to recycle used materials combined with traditional techniques of drawing & painting bring interesting results, especially when mingled with the spontaneity of assemblage & collage. I love creating something beautiful…with a sense of fun.”
In addition to her artistic talents, Angie is a veteran actress with a 30-plus year career in Film, TV/Radio, commercials and print campaigns, best known for her role as Ellen Murphy ("Mrs. Robocop") in the Robocop Trilogy. Angie is represented by the Kim Dawson Agency. To learn more about Angie visit http://www.angiebolling.com/ or http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0093135/
